Request to Book

Gemtree Outback Wilderness Retreat sits out on the Plenty Highway, a fair way from town but well worth the drive if you’re after genuine outback camping with a few creature comforts. It’s more than just a paddock – there’s powered and unpowered sites for caravans and tents, plus some cabins if you don’t want to lug your gear that far. The place is run privately and has a real no-frills vibe, which means the usual outback flies and dry heat are part of the package.

Booking is by request, so you’ll want to organise ahead through their website rather than just turning up. There’s a small shop on-site for basics and a camp kitchen, but don’t expect gourmet meals or luxury facilities. It’s a good spot if you’re heading through the Red Centre and want to break up the long drive with a proper rest.
